About Auto Club Raceway
An outgrowth of street racing, the Auto Club Raceway is one of the first tracks to help popularize hot rodding and the growth of the National Hot Rod Association.
Seating 34,800 in a U-shape surrounding three sides of the quarter-mile track, the Raceway is located at the edge of the giant, 487-acre Fairplex Park. Starting with the Southern California Championship Drag Races in 1953, the facility now hosts the famed NHRA Winternationals - the season opener since 1961 - in late January or early February and the NHRA finals in November. A major, $4.5 million renovation upgraded the facility in 1993.
The large scale of the facility has impressed non-hot rod enthusiasts as well as it was proposed as the location for the finish of the modern pentathlon in the Los Angeles bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.
