About Jackie Robinson Stadium
Named for the Bruin great who went on to break the color barrier in major league baseball in 1947, Jackie Robinson Stadium is the home of the UCLA baseball team. There is a statue of UCLA's first four-sport letter winner located on the concourse level, dedicated in 1985. The current stadium sits on the site of the old Sawtelle Field, which was UCLA's home field from 1964-79.
Located on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center, adjacent to the UCLA campus, Jackie Robinson Stadium offers a picturesque setting and is often used for baseball card photo shoots. There is seating for 1,250 although more than 2,000 can easily be accommodated on the berms which extend down the outfield lines. The record crowd of 2,914 crammed in for a March 23, 1997 battle between UCLA and USC, won by the Bruins, 8-5. It was also the site for the 1986 NCAA Western Regional.
