About Jesse Owens Stadium

Home to the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles soccer and track teams, Jesse Owens Stadium received a significant upgrade in 1983 when an Olympic-quality Recaflex-S synthetic track was installed by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

The track, paid for by Olympic sponsor Atlantic-Richfield Company (ARCO) was completed in 1983 and dedicated during the ARCO/Jesse Owens Games event held that summer; hence the naming of the facility for the great American gold medalist of the 1936 Games. The site was used for training prior to the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. A new, multi-line scoreboard was recently installed to provide better spectator information. In 2004, the track surface was rehabbed in preparation for the CCAA Championships.
