About the Long Beach Marine Stadium

Site of the 1932 Olympic rowing competition, the site is a favored venue for rowing, boat racing and water skiing. Boats of less than 20 feet are welcome and events are held year-round. The Long Beach Rowing Association, Golden West Water Ski tour, International Jet Ski Association and others have all held events there.

A California historical site, the Marine Stadium was the site of the 1968 U.S. Olympic rowing teams trials, the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival rowing competition and was proposed as the site for rowing and canoeing for the Los Angeles bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

•The basics:
The Marine Stadium is a waterway with limited public facilities. Its historic past and possible future as a dedicated rowing and canoeing channel make it unique in Southern California.

•Location and parking:
The Marine Stadium is located in the city of Long Beach, on Appian Way between Second and Colorado Streets. It can be accessed from the San Diego (405) Freeway by using the Bellflower Boulevard exit and traveling south to Colorado Boulevard. Turn west (right) on Colorado and continue to Appian Way. Turn left to the stadium.

•Management:
The venue is owned and operated by the City of Long Beach. Inquiries concerning facility use should be directed to Mark Sandoval, manager of marines and beaches at (562) 570-3215 or by fax at (562) 570-3247.

•Technical information:
The existing waterway has concrete walling on both sides and is bisected by the Davies (Second Street) Bridge. There are no support facilities, but there some bleachers for about 500 spectators and parking along one side of the channel.
