About the Los Angeles Tennis Center

Home to the famed UCLA Bruins tennis teams and site of the 1984 Olympic demonstration tournament, the L.A. Tennis Center is one of Southern California's most popular tennis facilities.

Opened in March 1984, it hosted the Olympic demonstration tournament and is the annual host of the Countrywide Classic tennis tournament (formerly the Mercedes-Benz Cup). It has been the site of the 1997 men's NCAA Tennis Championships and the 1984, 1987 and 1988 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.

The centerpiece of the Whittle & Associates-designed facility is Leonard Straus Stadium, named for the late chairman of Thrifty Corporation and a tireless supporter of tennis in Southern California and especially at UCLA. It seats 5,771 in total, surrounding the center court with seats on two other courts. There are a total of eight lighted tennis courts for recreational and competition uses.

The hard-court tennis surface in Straus Stadium is surrounded by seating. Bench seats with backs are available for 5,771 with 4,997 bleacher seats and 774 box seats. There is excellent lighting for televised night play in the stadium and on court no. 5.

•Location and parking:
The Tennis Center is located on the UCLA campus. It can be accessed from the San Diego (405) Freeway via the Sunset Boulevard exit (enter from the north into Lot 4 or Lot 7) or from the Wilshire Boulevard exit via Westwood Boulevard north into the campus (use Lot 6 or 8).

•Management:

•Technical information:
The Tennis Center offers eight hard-surface courts of regulation size. There is seating for 5,771 in Straus Stadium over three courts and there is some portable bleacher seating for other courts. There is quality lighting available in the stadium and for court 5.

There is a comfortable clubhouse which includes a 4,000 sq.ft. main meeting room and kitchen, plus locker rooms for both the UCLA men's and women's teams and for visiting teams. The Southern California Tennis Association is headquartered in the LATC.

Spectator amenities include an entrance plaza, excellent grounds lighting, a ticket office with four windows and an easy-to-read scoreboard/message board in the stadium.
